Blog: Current Government Spending and Debt Debate

Statement

Date: June 4, 2012

As a Nation, we must decide what kind of civil society we want and how much we are willing to pay for it. We must then collect appropriate revenues accordingly. In addition, our tax laws should set mandatory triggers to pay for wars and other unexpected national disasters. We should utilize monetary policy to stimulate and contract our economy only when absolutely necessary, and in line with sound debt gearing to our collective balance sheet. Period, end of the discussion.

I personally feel the American people have spoken loud and clear as to what kind of civil society they want and the safety net programs needed to avoid a country polarized into nothing but the "have's" and the "have not's". Unfortunately a group of right wing zealots have temporarily hijacked our democratic government and, through obstructionism and self interest, have insisted they will not pay their fair share of the cost.

Hopefully, in the long run, this will not stand; if it does, this great nation we know and love as "Opportunity for all" will eventually fade into nothing but a militarized third world state.
